The book says, ‘Watching amateurs at work can also inspire us to attempt the work ourselves.’ I wonder if it’s because we have the instinctive competitive thought of, ‘I can do better than that!’ Hmmm…
The book says, ‘Find a scenius for ideas,’ which means something like a scene where geniuses (genii???) gather and get ideas from there. He goes on to say later, ‘Look at what they’re not sharing and fill the void.’ Reminds me of something I heard on the Cleared Hot podcast with Andy Stumpf (not affiliated). He was discussing something with somebody about looking for the gaps in people’s silhouettes when he grapples with them in BJJ. I’m certain I’m getting it all wrong, but most inventions and forward movement in society did come from people looking at what’s missing and how they could fill the gaps, or at least shorten the distance.
The book says, ‘Amateurs are just regular people who get obsessed by something and spend a ton of time thinking out loud about it.’ I wonder when they get to call themselves professionals? Just a thought.
Another thought is that I wonder if Jocko didn’t have a podcast, would anyone know anything about him at all? Lots of little details come out during the episodes. I’m pretty sure you’d never hear about it if he came to your company for consultation. I wonder what would come out about me during the course of this blog series… Maybe I’ll make a TL;DR round-up article at the end. 😉
