It’s been a long, long while since I’ve posted here. Lots of things have happened, but as we all know, ‘All my excuses are lies.’ Posting here has not been a priority for quite some time.
And now the entire universe has conspired to help me (like it says in The Alchemist). A freak lightning strike took out the power pack of my laptop. Thankfully, my laptop was not plugged into it at the time. But while my computer guy was out looking for a replacement, I had to offload some documents I was working on to my hard disk drive, which should have had sufficient space for a few extra GBs, but no, there I was looking at 500MBs free on disk. I don’t swear often, but I thought, ‘WTH!!!’
I knew my hard disk drive needed organizing since I had loaded it with whatever I had on hand when I first got it: retrieved files from an old desktop computer, tiny flash drives, old external hard disk drives (250 – 500 MBs size), etc, etc, etc. I’ve been procrastinating looking through all this stuff, but when I need that space and don’t have it, AND need to finish work projects, then I have to take time to go through what it is that I really need to keep.
My friends in first world countries might scoff and ask why I don’t just go out and buy a bigger external hard disk drive. Wonderful question! Wonderful suggestion! Big problem: there isn’t a big one to be had here in our city, and with both the inflation and exchange rate at crazy levels… well, I got three young boys to feed. Priorities, priorities…
So with a borrowed laptop with minimal battery power, but at least the power cable works, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. Actually, I wear sleeveless or tanktops in this heat, but you get the drift.
Where to start with this monumental task…? First, I got rid of all the JcNuggets video files that I’ve posted on YouTube. Broke my heart but hey, low hanging fruit in quick wins. Only 250MBs.
After working on it when I could borrow this laptop, and between the times I had to attend to mission work and homeschooling my kids, I’m pleased to say I’ve freed up 61 GBs of space, which is more like it. I’m sure there is more to do, but then I came across my saved files of articles that I’ve posted on this site and remembered that, ‘Jeepers, it’s been awhile.’ So here I am before anything else gets in the way, especially excuses.
I literally just got a call from my guy that he’s found a replacement power pack for me and I can come by tomorrow and pick it up. It’s all coming together. See y’all next week (or in another article, if you’re new and are just looking around)!
