Chapter 3: Thoughts While I Read
- Talks about the difference between a SEAL and a Team Guy. Goggins vs Jocko comes to mind.
- He talks about changing the question of ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ to ‘What are you interested in?’ Working with children for a lot of my adult life, I fully support this switch. A lot of the jobs available now were not even on the radar when I was growing up. How could I have worked towards something that wasn’t there yet? …unless I was interested in it and developed it… *see?*
- Talks about higher education is good, student loans are a bad idea. I am on board with this assessment.
- Briefly talks about getting shot and ending up in the hospital. Spends more time about what was going on in his head. Again, I like the comprehensive story. I have heard it told on podcasts, with slightly different details depending on what the interviewer/interviewee asked as follow up questions throughout. (Don’t get me wrong, the story didn’t change, but some were more interested in this aspect than that.)
- Talks about ‘golden handcuffs’ and sticking with a job you don’t like just for the paycheck. It’s a riches-to-rags story. 😉 No, not quite. The transition is important.
- Talks about BASE jumping. Personally, not interested. But he is interesting, and a good writers, so here I am… :p
- Talks about using the ‘silence’ that comes from focusing on an activity/job/hobby for good, and the possible downsides
