So I’ll just put it out there: I met up with Jono Hey.
It doesn’t mean much to you? Who is Jono Hey? And why should it matter?
Probably not much meaning and earth-shaking going on about two individuals meeting up in the basement of a bookstore in central London.
I was first intrigued by Jono Hey when I was looking up some fitspo (fitness inspiration, for those who forgot what it was. It was a thing…) and wanted ‘something something something repeat’ and this showed up as one of the images:

I ‘accidentally’ opened the page and scrolled through a few posts, signing up immediately (most people know I’m a bit leery of signing up for the freebies).
What I enjoyed the most was that it was educational, the artwork and explanation was simple enough to be understood at first glance and it covered a variety of topics. I also really liked the little bit of humor (or humour, because Jono is from the UK) that is interspersed. There seems to be something for everyone in just one little drawing. He’s brainy AND artsy!
We discussed many different topics, such as tablet vs. drawing by hand, how he got in contact with Bill Gates to illustrate one of his books, work schedules and rate of posting, etc. I am impressed too by the fact that this isn’t even Jono’s full-time gig, just something he does on the side. It makes me feel a little like a slacker.
I don’t usually buy things that I can get for free online but I made an exception in this case. He signed my copy of his book and I’ll use it in my home-schooling lesson plans with my boys.

One thing that is JUST NOW occurring to me is that I didn’t ask for a picture with him. But this has never been my goal in life. When/if I meet ‘famous’ people, I’m a lot more interested in them as a person and how they function in this crazy world we live in. I don’t have many pictures with ‘celebrities’. (Come to think of it, I don’t have many pictures FULL STOP. I’m usually the one behind the camera.)
I think Jono may be the same. Here’s his family portrait at the end of his book:

The takeaway is that I’ll be picking up a pencil and doodling/sketching more often. Also sign up at sketchplanations.com (not an affiliate) and enjoy the weekly emails, learn something new and/or just be amused.
Have a great week!
