Book says, ‘The more people come across your work, the more criticism you face,’ and, ‘Let people contact you directly or let them copy your work over to their own spaces and talk about it all they want.’ Maybe this is what has been holding me back from sharing my work and thoughts from people: scared of criticism…
But the more I think about it, it’s like someone said to me on Twitter (before it became X), the little things I post online or the little JcNuggets I cut up for the public on YouTube is a little bit of positivity amid all the negativity and bad news out there. So as long as I made the world a little better for others, great!
I think one of the reasons I love listening to Andy Stumpf on Cleared Hot (or anywhere, for that matter) is that he is very candid and still brings humor into things. Some people don’t pick up on the humor, but I found that a lot of his actual writing is serious in tone. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t want to write books and would rather flap his gums (to quote an oft-used phrase by Mike Ritland of Mike Drop Podcast) and have interesting guests to ask interesting questions of.
Book says, ‘People need to eat and pay the rent. But when you have success, it’s important to use any dough, clout, or platform you’ve acquired to help along the work of the people who’ve helped you get to where you are.’ Joseph in the Bible comes to mind. When he was in jail, he helped a guy. When the guy got out of jail, Joseph asked him to help him out too. The guy forgot all about him for two years. A good example of this is that the small amount of traction that JcNuggets has is all because of Arvid and his likes and shares on Twitter (now X). I don’t know how the word would have originally gotten out if I didn’t have such a stand-up guy on my side. Also the logo was made by him; I definitely couldn’t have made it myself.
