This blog is reader-supported, for the most part. As an Amazon Associate, I earn a small commission from qualifying purchases at no cost to you. I only endorse things that I use personally or come highly recommended by someone I implicitly trust, like Jocko.
So. Care package came. GOOD. Someone sponsored books. GOOD. All three books from the Podcast. GOOD.
Now, I’m stuck with a dilemma… Prioritize and execute is the S.O.P. (Standard Operating Procedure)…
Pros and Cons of each one:
About Face: This was very high on my priority list since 2015, when I heard Jocko talk mention it on Tim Ferriss’ podcast. (Though, come to think of it, not so high since it’s taken six years to get ahold of a copy…) Downside: It’s a BIG book.
Guidelines for the Leader and Commander: This is one is even higher on my priority list, just because it’s the origin story (as it were) for About Face, which in turn is the origin story for Extreme Ownership, which leads into Leadership Tactics: Field Manual, which in turn leads to the Warrior Kid series. Also covered more extensively than any other book on the Podcast. Might also be one of the shortest… Downside: Can’t see one, except I may make a lot of notes and that might take a long time to get through the book. 😉
The Way of the Warrior Kid: Field Manual (also known as Warrior Kid 4): I can read this for story time with my boys (ages seven and four) who love the Warrior Kid books so far. Though glancing through it, I will need to get notebooks and stuff for keeping track of what they’re trying to make progress in. As a homeschooling mom, I already do some of this FOR them, but it looks like they’ll need to start keeping track of their own forward movement down the Path.
In summary:
About Face will be put on the backburner for now (unless someone can change my mind about it). I will be going through Guidelines for the Leader and Commander in conjunction with all the commentary from the Podcast episodes. And, concurrently, I’ll be going through the Warrior Kid: Field Manual with my boys.
Will keep you updated.
